WCA Announces Fall 2015 Classes

Dr. Robert Orr, president of Washington College Academy announced a slate of courses to be offered for the Fall 2015 semester at Washington College Academy.

“Our goal is to provide educational opportunities for lifelong learners,” said Orr.

The course offerings are:

High School Curriculum Our high school equivalency (HSE) classes are ongoing, allowing anyone to begin at any time, working at their own pace to prepare for the state examinations. Classes meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday nights. The instructor is Marie Wilder. For more information call (423) 257-2555.

 

The Civil War in East Tennessee

An examination of the battles fought and sides taken in East Tennessee from the beginnings of the war to reconstruction.

Instructor: Dr. Robert Orr

Tuesdays in October at the WCA President’s House 6 p.m.

$5 registration, $20 for four classes.

John Calvin and Representative Democracy

An examination of the political impact of Calvin’s thinking on the development of Representative Democracy. Church government underwent extensive reformation by Calvin and his followers. One hundred and fifty years of religious wars followed in which the Roman Catholic establishment tried to repress the emerging Democratic civil governments, with major success of the movement coming in the British Isles and America. Instructor: Dr. Robert Orr

Tuesdays in November at the WCA President’s House 6 p.m.

Fees: $5 registration, $5 per class

Drawing for Beginners

This class for adults will improve drawing skills through attention to composition and perspective.

Historic Painting

Participants will learn about and paint scenes from an historic event in local history. Dr. Robert Orr and local artist Joe Kilday will co-instruct the class.
